Hetal Chudasama
Board Director
Hetal Chudasama is an Indian-born visual artist currently residing in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Her work encompasses a diverse range of art forms, materials, and spatial constructs, with a primary focus on creating immersive environments that invite observation, introspection, and intimate reflection. Chudasama’s art often delves into socio-political and ecological themes, skilfully bridging the material and spiritual, the internal and external, and the individual and collective.
Chudasama earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine art from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda, India. She also holds a diploma in New Media Art Studies and Research from École de Bouxe Art, Marseille. Following her graduation, she served as Exhibition and Programme Director at Art Home, an arts organization in Baroda, India. In 2011, she founded KOHAR, an arts and craft revival organization aimed at supporting women from various communities affected by conflict, poverty, and lack of education. The foundation's mission was to create a safe space for vulnerable individuals to come together, preserve and master traditional bead and embroidery techniques, plan exhibitions, and develop sustainable sources of income.
Central to Chudasama’s artistic practice is her engagement with the conflicts and unresolved tensions within her immediate community. She constructs visual and sensory narratives that address collective anxieties surrounding social inequalities, climate change, migration, trauma, and loss.
Chudasama’s creative portfolio includes large-scale, site-specific installations that are often ephemeral in nature, blending various mediums such as audiovisual materials, painting, text, and sculpture. She has held several solo exhibitions in India and Switzerland and has organized numerous group presentations, performances, and interactive events in India, Hong Kong, and across Europe.
