Work made by young people in a workshop with Morag Macpherson
Work made by young people in a workshop with Morag Macpherson

As part of our ongoing work to connect young people with artists and makers, we have collaborated with Better Lives Partnership this year to create a fun-filled programme of activity for their service users. Upland has partnered up with BLP Stranraer, who support autistic young adults, to connect them with a range of artists/makers from different disciplines of interest – filmmaking, pottery and textiles – which were identified by the young people as skills they would like to learn. The young people were able to experiment with the different artforms in a series of taster sessions based at both BLP and the artists/makers studios. They then chose to develop one of these three disciplines further, and have been guided by the expert artist/maker to hone their new skills in a series of workshops over the past four months.

We have been sharing pictures from the filmmaking, pottery and textiles workshops along the way, and are now very excited to announce that the young people will be holding an exhibition of the work they made in these sessions! Join them at The Hub, Stranraer 12 noon on Thursday 19th September for their exhibition opening, or pop in to see the exhibition anytime from Thurs – Saturday during the opening hours.
