CAR BOOT ART with ROAM (Space)

Calling all early-career artists in Dumfries and Galloway!

Are you up for a challenge? ROAM (Space) present CAR BOOT ART. Someone else’s trash could be your treasure. Make art out of objects you find at a car boot sale. You have two weeks – go!

This new project challenges you to come along to a car boot sale, see what you can find, and make new artwork out of your newfound treasures.

Your artwork can be in any medium, including sculpture, print, photography, film – as long as it is either made from your object/item, directly inspired by it or features it. Maybe it’s a 3d sculpture made of Barbie heads and blu tac, or a short film shot with the vintage camera you found at the car boot sale.

How to take part:

Join the ROAM (Space) group at the Car Boot Sale at 10am on Sunday 15th September at the Rugby Club, New Abbey Road, Dumfries, with an experienced contemporary artist on hand to offer free advice. Everyone will be given £10 to spend on stuff from the car boot sale.

Once you’ve found your objects, you’ll have a couple weeks to make an artwork with them – this is your chance to play and experiment so have fun! We’ll also have a Making Day for anyone who wants to come and create in a communal space. Then, we’ll all meet back to put together a pop-up exhibition of all our creations! (exact date and venue of exhibition tbc but likely to be in Dumfries)

UPDATE: The Making Day will take place on Sunday 22nd September, 12-5pm at Gracefield Arts Centre. Come along if you'd like some support to make art out of / inspired by items you purchased at the car boot sale. As well as being a great space to meet your fellow artists who will be exhibiting alongside you, contemporary artist Kevin Reid will be on hand to offer advice and help you to consolidate your ideas. 

PLEASE NOTE: If the weather is very wet, the Car Boot Sale may be cancelled. Look out for updates from us on the Friday prior - if the forecast is rainy we may make a call to visit charity shops in Dumfries on Saturday 14th September instead.
