Carolyn Marr

My aim is to make objects that arrest attention and invite handling. I enjoy playing with light and shade, simplicity and complexity, and group dynamics, taking an experimental approach.

Based in Brampton, Cumbria, I’m a regular participant in local art events and have exhibited widely in the UK as well as in Venice and Montreal. I’m a member of Northern Potters Association and Bensham Grove Pottery. See my website events page for the latest news.

I have degrees in modern languages and Southeast Asia Area Studies. After working in the fields of education and environmental justice, I studied ceramics at Newcastle College, completing a FdA in Contemporary Ceramic Practice in 2011. In 2025 I completed an MA in Contemporary Art and Archaeology at the University of Highlands and Islands.

Project work for this MA involved film-making and multimedia artworks. My award-winning short film ‘Stuff’ can be viewed via my website.
