Modern Makers x BLP

Upland has been working with Better Lives Partnership, Stranraer to develop a programme of engagement for their young people. Three different groups of young people have been developing their creative skills and interests through a series of workshops focused on:

  • filmmaking with Colin Tennant

  • pottery with Joshua Williams

  • textiles with Morag MacPherson

As part of our ongoing work to connect young people with artists and makers, we have collaborated with Better Lives Partnership this year to create a fun-filled programme of activity for their service users. Upland has partnered up with BLP Stranraer, who support autistic young adults, to connect them with a range of artists/makers from different disciplines of interest – filmmaking, pottery and textiles – which were identified by the young people as skills they would like to learn.
 
The young people were able to experiment with the different artforms in a series of taster sessions based at both BLP and the artists/makers studios. They then chose to develop one of these three disciplines further, and have been guided by the expert artist/maker to hone their new skills in a series of workshops over the past four months.
 
Three different groups of young people have been developing their creative skills and interests through a series of workshops focused on:

• textiles with Morag MacPherson.
 
The project is culminating in an exhibition of the work the young people have made over this time, held at the Creative Stranraer Hub. More details on the exhibition can be found below:
