Upland made was established in 2021 (as the Winter Art & Craft Fair) with the support of Dumfries and Galloway Council. Following the success of its first year, the event undertook some rebranding and development, evolving into Upland made in 2022. The event has now run for three years, each year evolving and responding to the needs of the exhibitors and the event visitors.
The event aims to be different from other public events produced by Upland CIC. Therefore, the fair takes place in one large location and is open in terms of its application process. Unlike Spring Fling, selection criteria for the fair are not necessarily based on the quality of work, development of practice etc, instead, selection criteria for taking part in the Fair is based on the following:
- Type of work
- we don’t want to showcase all printmaking/glass/jewellery, we would like a range of work for our visitors.
- Your experience in exhibiting and setting up your work at a fair
- Participants should be prepared to talk to the public and sell their work.
- if you do not have experience in doing this, you should be able to show a commitment to your practice.
- Stand setup and display
- All stand displays should be of a good quality and represent the ambitions of this event.
- Please see the information provided by Upland for display at the end of this document.
- Presentation of your work
- The quality of images and information you have provided in your application – have you given all the information requested?
This allows the selection panel for the fair the chance to curate an event that presents a range of stands, ensures that all exhibitors are confident and able to set up and man their stands for the duration of the fair, and makes sure that stand displays are well set up and of a high quality. Upland provides support to exhibitors with developing good displays and to those with little fair experience.
Event participants pay a small stand fee to take part and these are based on the size of stand and are at two different rates for established and emerging exhibitors.
Interested in taking part?
Applications will open for Upland made 2024 in April 2024.
The event is for Upland members only. Although you don't have to be a member to apply, this will be required if you are successful in your application. Please make sure you are eligible to become a member. Find out about membership HERE.
