Andy LJ Brooke
Andy studied Graphic Origination at London College of Printing in 1980-1 and then graduated from University of London Goldsmiths’ college in 1984 with a BA in Visual Communication. He then graduated from University of Sheffield in 1987 with an MA in Language and Philosophy of Criticism. Following that he tried his hand at running a small ceramics business before training for secondary Art teaching at St Luke’s, Exeter University.
From 1991-2018 Andy taught at The Sixth Form College, Colchester, Essex, mostly as Head of Photography, but also contributing to Media Studies, Fine Art and Art History.
In 2004 Andy encountered stained glass at an Adult Education Summer school and from then on became very keen to integrate glass into his other interests of print and photography, both in gallery contexts and site-specific works.
He has been involved in various community arts projects such as a 24-hour photographic documenting of Colchester in 2011, establishing a community darkroom in Colchester in 2017, and involvement in several collaborative stained glass projects for the Sixth Form College.
Since moving to Dumfries in 2020 Andy has been involved with various projects at The Stove Network, most recently receiving a community artist commission with LIFT Dumfries as part of the What We Do Now project within the Culture Collective initiative sponsored by Creative Scotland.
