Upland Member Ruth Elizabeth Jones will be exhibiting three hand-built 'Moon Jars' at the Collect Art Fair in London, alongside the work of nine other makers selected by Craft Scotland.

Collect 2023 is open between Fri 3rd – Sun 5th March with previews on Wed 1st & Thurs 2nd, welcoming international galleries, artists, collectors and craft enthusiasts. The event in London will be followed by an online showcase at Artsy.

Ruth has said of the opportunity "It is very exciting to show my work to an international audience of galleries and collectors and to see it alongside such outstanding artists feels like a career milestone".

Ruth's hand-built vessels, or "Moon Jars" are described as "coil-built, smoke-fired spherical forms with light-reactive surfaces raised by a narrow foot, evoking a sense of tranquillity and appearing to float in the air".

Collect 2023, the 19th edition of the art fair, is set to raise the profile of exceptional new contemporary craft, with the exhibiting galleries representing some of the most exciting international artists making work today.

Craft Scotland is the national development agency supporting makers and promoting craft. They have been showing Scottish makers at Collect since 2018.

Ruth has been working with Craft Scotland since 2022 as a participant of the COMPASS Emerging Maker Programme. This programme aims to develop craft talent by equipping individuals with the necessary skills to create a sustainable craft practice. Ruth has said that "participating in COMPASS gave (her) the confidence to move forward with (her) practice and apply for Collect".
