Maker selected for Modern Makers 2016
We are delighted to announce that Sam Booth will be our Maker for Modern Makers 2016. With over 30 years experience in interior, product and building design Sam has realised his ambition to develop beautiful, sustainable, small buildings through establishing Echo Living.
Modern Makers has evolved from The Modern Heritage Craft Project which ran in 2014 and 2015 giving eighteen 15-25 year olds, all at different stages in their careers, the chance to work with Dumfries and Galloway’s most talented makers.
This project gives young people the chance to work with Sam and his team in his workshop over 20 days, focusing on craft skills, design process and collaborative working.

Modern Makers is a programme for a small group of young people to work intensively with a professional maker to learn craft skills.
Modern Heritage Craft
Modern Heritage Craft (2013 - 2015) created the chance for young people to work with professional makers to learn a craft and create a contemporary functional object in 10 days.
Modern Maker Lorna Phillips wins Glenfiddich Residency Award
Previous Modern Makers participant Lorna Phillips has won this year's Glenfiddich Residency Award at the opening of the RSA New Contemporaries exhibition in Edinburgh, where she is currently showing her work as a selected graduate of Edinburgh College of Art.
MAKE Learn Report and Resources Launched
MAKE Manifesto and Craft Scotland have launched MAKE Learn - three research documents titled Craft and Making in Education in Scotland Today: Research Report, Key Findings and Recommendations, alongside a set of resources, developed with makers, for schools.
